Foodbanking Our Core Program

Founded in 1983, Shared Harvest Foodbank collects, warehouses, transports and distributes contributions of wholesome surplus food and other grocery style products to 90+ food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and similar nonprofits in Butler, Warren, Preble, Darke and Miami counties which provide either hot meals or bags of groceries to people in need.

In addition, Shared Harvest administers USDA’s Emergency Food Assistance Program for four sister Foodbank’s serving an additional 26 Ohio counties.

Retail Pick-Up Program Rescues perishable, center of the plate foods, from retail grocers utilizing a food safety protocol developed by Kroger, and offers it for distribution to our partner agencies.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program Provides shelf stable USDA commodities in emergency food provision and can only be used by Food Pantries, Soup Kitchens, and Shelters. The Ohio Association of Foodbanks As a member of the state association, we participate in the Food Purchase Program which allows us to offer a better inventory mix and the Agriculture Clearance Program which partners with Ohio Family Farmers to donate their surplus fresh produce. Foodbank Market Program This program is similar to a cooperative buying program, offering meat, eggs, paper and personal supplies, canned vegetables and fruits, pasta and sauce, soups and cereals, peanut butter and jelly to our partner agencies.
