Warren County Food Bank
Providing county-wide support for emergency food
The Warren County
Food Bank is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping feed the hungry
of
History
In 2005, a group of
civic minded individuals joined together to create the Warren County Food Bank,
a “Virtual Food Bank” focused on confronting the critical issue of hunger within
our community. These individuals were
concerned that a majority of county resources (food, money, volunteers) were
helping out the needy of other communities.
The county as a whole did not understand that we have the same problems
as all other communities.
In order to address
this issue, the Warren County Food Bank was established. Its primary focus was to increase the
awareness of the hunger problem within the county by organizing large scale
food/fund drives. Local organizations do
not have the resources to coordinate large scale county wide drives. The “Virtual Food Bank” was setup without a
warehouse to help coordinate the large scale drives and distributes the food
and money to the member agencies across the county. Therefore, we rely on our member agencies to
deliver the support to the community.
Our focus is to garner support from the county on behalf of our member
agencies. In 2006, with the help of Franklin
Area Community Services the Warren County Food Bank was able to establish
umbrella 501(c)3 not-for-profit status.
100% of all food and money collected goes
directly to the support of the member agencies.
